The Aperitivo Chapter: Turin

Four days in Turin, exploring vermouth, cafés, chocolate—and the art of lingering.

THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE OF ITALY’S PIEDMONT.

Beyond the vineyards and hilltop villages of Barolo lies a very different expression of Piedmont.

Turin.

The former capital of the Savoy dynasty, Turin has a distinctly cosmopolitan character shaped by both Italian and French influences. Its grand arcades, elegant cafés, historic squares, chocolate traditions, and aperitivo culture tell a story that is as much about how people gather as what they eat and drink.

This is the city that made vermouth famous. It is a city of coffee in the morning, chocolate in the afternoon, and aperitivo as the day begins to turn toward evening.

For four days, we'll explore Turin through these rituals and traditions—not as a checklist of sights, but through the places, people, and experiences that make the city feel like itself.

And we'll leave room between them.

Time for another coffee. A little shopping. A walk beneath the arcades. An afternoon spent wandering without a destination. A conversation that lasts longer than expected.

We aren't trying to see all of Turin. We're trying to experience it.

From Vineyard to City

The Aperitivo Chapter is designed as a natural continuation of Barolo & Beyond, our May 11–18 journey through Piedmont's wine country.

After a week of vineyards, winemakers, long lunches, and hilltop villages, the landscape changes.

We move from vineyard to city.
From wine to vermouth.
From cellar to café.
From the land to the salon.

The transition isn't simply geographic. It's a change of rhythm—and a chance to discover another side of the region.

The Aperitivo Chapter can also be enjoyed independently, as a standalone Olive Road journey to pair with your own travels through Italy.

The Turin Experience

Turin and vermouth are inseparable. We'll explore the history and culture behind this quintessentially Piedmontese aperitivo, tasting our way through the traditions that helped shape Turin's drinking culture.

But this isn't a class in vermouth for vermouth's sake.

It's a way into the city and its culture.

VERMOUTH

CAFÉS & CHOCOLATE

Turin's historic cafés are part of the fabric of the city—places where coffee, conversation, politics, art, and everyday life have intersected for generations.

We'll spend time in some of these storied spaces and explore Turin's extraordinary chocolate traditions, including its beloved relationship with gianduja.

THE RITUAL OF APERITIVO

Aperitivo is more than a drink before dinner.

It's a moment to stop. To gather. To talk. To eat something small and perhaps order another drink. And it’s a tradition that was born in Turin.

We'll experience aperitivo in several forms throughout our time in Turin, culminating in a signature Olive Road Aperitivo experience designed around the city's history, flavors, and social rituals.

TURIN AT YOUR OWN PACE

One of the luxuries of this journey is what we aren't going to do.

We won't fill every hour.

There will be time to wander through the historic center, linger over lunch, browse a shop, return to the hotel for an afternoon rest, or simply sit somewhere beautiful and watch Turin go by.

Because some of the best moments in a city are the ones you didn't schedule.

The Journey

Day One: Arrive in Turin

From the vineyards to the city.

Arrive in Turin and settle into your centrally located boutique luxury accommodation.

We'll begin gently, with time to get oriented and experience the city before gathering for our first introduction to Turin's aperitivo culture.

Our first evening is less about seeing Turin and more about beginning to understand its rhythm: a beautiful setting, something good in your glass, something to eat, and time for conversation

Day Two: Vermouth & The Cafe Culture of Turin

A city built around gathering.

Today we begin to explore the traditions that have shaped Turin's culinary and social identity.

We'll delve into the city's vermouth heritage, spend time in historic cafés, and discover the chocolate traditions for which Turin is so beloved.

Along the way, we'll explore the city on foot, moving through its grand arcades and historic center with plenty of room to pause.

And, naturally, we'll make time for aperitivo.

Day Three: The Aperitivo Chapter

Vermouth, small plates & long conversations.

Today is the heart of the experience.

We'll continue exploring Turin through its food and drink traditions before settling into a carefully curated progression of aperitivo experiences.

Rather than one formal meal or one scheduled tasting, the evening unfolds around the way Turin itself gathers: moving from place to place, discovering different expressions of the aperitivo ritual, and allowing good food, good drinks, and conversation to set the pace.

This is our signature Olive Road evening in Turin—and the moment when the themes of the journey come together.

Day Four: One More Coffee

A little more time.

Our final morning is intentionally unhurried.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Take one last walk beneath the arcades. Pick up some chocolate. Return to a favorite café. Or simply enjoy having nowhere you need to be.

Then continue your Italian journey independently, return home, or carry on to wherever the road leads next.
